Choosing a Neutral Interior Paint Color
November 16, 2017
When it comes to painting your home, inside and out, many people are interested in a nice, neutral tone. However, there are many different options to choose from. You can pick a blue, warm, cool, gray, red, green. There are so many neutral colors you may be overwhelmed. Before you choose the neutral tone for your interior or paint, read this post to learn some of the factors you should consider before choosing a neutral interior paint color.
Warm VS Cool Tones
There are six color families – green, blue, purple, red, orange, and yellow. Green, blue, and purple tones are considered to be cool, and red, orange, and yellow are warm. Each of the color families have neutral tones that will also be considered warm or cool according to the family’s attributes. Warm colors are better for cozy rooms, but for a room you want to look more spacious a cool tone is a better option.
50 Plus Shades of Gray
Grays are some of the most popular neutral color choices. Many people think that gray is gray, but actually, there are grays in all of the six color families. Colors can become very muted or completely washed out to the point that the human eye cannot register the color. When that happens, the color is called gray. When the grays have progressed to the point where they no longer retain the properties of any one color, this is the true, achromatic gray. Before reaching the achromatic stage, each of these colored shades of gray will retain the warmth or coolness of their corresponding color families.
Lighting is Everything
During the day and throughout the night, every room receives light from multiple sources. Different levels of natural and artificial lighting will change the way your neutral looks. Before you pick one, take at least 24 hours to see the way the light affects the coloring in your room. If you have a few colors you want to consider, paint a small patch of each on the same wall. Then, sit back and watch the way the light changes your neutral.
