Five Tips for Painting Your Baby’s Nursery A Color You’ll Love

October 31, 2016

painting company in fort worth knows about baby nurseriesTrying to decide what color to paint your baby’s nursery? It’s a big decision — how can you find something neutral but still special, a color that will speak to your baby’s personality (which, well, you don’t know much about yet) and a shade that you won’t get tired of quickly? And above all, you want a paint that’s safe. There are a lot of things to consider. As your painting company in Fort Worth, we do this sort of thing all the time. The team at Platinum Painting has some ideas to help you decide what to paint your baby nursery.

#1: Skip the typical colors

For a new little boy or girl, pink and blue are a big yawn in the nursery (sorry, but it’s true). Think outside of the box for your little one! Something like mint green or a soft yellow are more unexpected. These gender-neutral colors are also cheerful, clean shades that you aren’t likely to get tired of soon. That makes them a great fit in your baby nursery, a place where you’ll likely spend a lot of time once your new arrival comes.

#2: Or put a new spin on tradition

If you do want to go the traditional route, consider splashing the walls with something a little less expected by choosing a soft pink — not too bright — or a teal shade instead of baby blue. There’s nothing wrong with tradition, after all, but mixing it up a little bit will give your baby’s nursery an original twist.

#3: Consider how the color ages

The nursery will also likely be your child’s room as he or she gets older. And you may not feel like repainting at every stage of childhood. So while you are considering the paint for your baby’s nursery, you should also keep in mind how the color will age with your child. Will that bright purple or yellow suit an older child’s personality, too? It’s hard to know, but that’s why going neutral now may be a good decision later on.

#4: Think about your decor and theme

Does your baby’s nursery have a theme? From zoo animals to trains, clouds, and ponies, consider how these accent colors will look against the walls. Navy and yellow look great for a boy, while a soft orange can help fuschia really pop for a girl’s room.

#5: Consider the safety of the paint

If you’re concerned about the safety of the paint in your child’s room, you can buy paints that are low in or free of VOC, or volatile organic compounds. These paints will not emit chemicals into the room over the years.
