Clean Your Dirty Walls in Five Easy Steps
July 22, 2016
Wondering how to clean your painted walls? It’s not so difficult to keep your walls clean — you just have to know the steps. Platinum Painting, the top professional painting services in DFW, is here with some advice on the best way to clean dirty walls. Then, keep them clean with regular maintenance and a little prevention!
#1: Dust your walls
Dust the… walls? It may sound strange, but it’s a good first step in cleaning the walls. You may not realize it, but a hefty amount of dust collects on walls. If you start trying to clean them without first removing the fine layer of dirt and other particles, you’re likely to end up with a big, brown, soupy mess. Use a microfiber cloth or feather duster for this portion of cleaning your walls.
#2: Scrub visible spots
Now that you’ve dusted, it’s time to put in some elbow grease. Scrub away the visible spots with a cloth and your favorite home cleaning solution. One easy method is using warm water with a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent. Or if you don’t feel like making up your own cleanser, you can also try out the remove-it-all magic erasers available at the store.
#3: Wash the whole wall
After you’ve cleaned up the most visible stains, you should wash over the whole wall. This big wash will remove any water left behind from the scrubbing and clean dingy areas you may not have even noticed. Use the water and detergent mixture or an all purpose cleaner for this portion.
#4: Give the baseboards some attention
Clean walls look significantly brighter when the baseboards below them are clean, too. Give them some attention after you’ve washed the walls to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You can also prevent hair, dust, and other stray particles from collecting on the boards by running a dryer sheet over the boards. It may feel a bit strange at first, but trust us — it works!
#5: Keep them clean
After you’ve put in all the trouble to get your walls clean, keep them clean with regular care. Dust periodically and consider making some new house rules, like maybe hands off the walls at all times. And when even your best cleaning efforts just don’t pay off, it may be time to consider a new paint job. When that time comes, the professional painters at Platinum Painting are prepared!
